Estimation of land cover changes and biomass carbon stock in north-eastern hill forests of Bangladesh

چکیده
Forests are atmospheric CO2 sinks, but their losses and degradation accelerate the emissions of carbon stored as a sink. Deforestation forest widespread in Bangladesh, impact on greenhouse gas (GHG) is unknown. We assess land use cover (LULC) change loss this study by classifying different Landsat satellite imagery with focus from 1989 to 2020. Tier 1 standards were used estimate removal small-scale tropical forest. Over last three decades, area has decreased 2.40%, 3.74% 7.52%, respectively. The primary causes large-scale tea garden homestead expansion, as well increase agricultural activities. Because of reduction area, annual gain biomass also decreased. Although overall emission was net for Maulvibazar hill forest, it 331.24 Gg·yr–1 first decade (1989 2000) 307.7 the most recent (2011 2020), which an alarming trend. As result, research will contribute leaders’ commitment “halt reverse 2030” at 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference Parties (COP 26) 2021 improve sequestration, combat climate conserve biodiversity.

The mangrove forest ecosystem is known to possess a variety of ecosystem services, including high rates of carbon sequestration, storage and mitigating climate change through reduced deforestation. This study was carried out in the mangrove forests of Gowatr Bay, Gulf of Oman during 2017-18 to quantify biomass and carbon stocks of all components of this forest, including live and dead trees, so...
متن کاملEstimation of Microbial Biomass Carbon and Nitrogen in Bangladesh Soils
In order to estimate the microbial biomass content and to quantify the amount of available plant nutrients derived from microbial biornass in Bangladesh soils, biomass-C, -N, and available-N eoptents using samples from 8 soils were measured by applying the chloroform fumigation and drying-rewetting methods, respectively. 1)
متن کاملSeasonal Variation of Earthworm Abundances and Biomass in Natural Forests and Plantations (North of Iran)
Soil productivity and plant growth are usually affected by biological activities of earthworms. The objective of this study was a comparative evaluation of earthworm abundances in 20-year-old plantations of Alder, Oak, Maple and Cypress with the adjacent natural mixed broad-leaved deciduous forest in the Caspian region of Iran. In this research one sample plot, each 1 ha; was selected in every ...
متن کاملLand Use/Cover Changes in North Eastern Greece from 1980 to 2000
Routes of transhumance movement as well as both summer and winter destinations are subjected to intense grazing that over the years may shape landscapes. The aim of this study was to investigate land use changes in Aspropotamos area, Trikala from 1985 to 2000 that serves as a summer destination of transhumance flocks. Changes in land cover were explored with the post classification comparison a...
متن کاملMonitoring Land Cover Changes of Forests and Coastal Areas of Northern Iran (1988-2010): A Remote Sensing Approach
Caspian Sea coastline in the Mazandaran province has been altered as a result of activities of developers attracted to aesthetic and coastal recreational aspects of forest ecosystems. Advances in GIS and RS techniques, has made it possible to study the coastal areas for better management. Hence, the present study was undertaken to determine land cover changes via applying cross classificat...
